Three-dimensional prototype of a modern eggcup, and multi-purpose object for every-day use.
During my study program, I attended a one-week workshop for this project. The objective was to familiarize myself with making models. With the use of plaster and casting techniques, the goal was to create an easy-to-produce, everyday item. My end result was a dual-purpose object I called Eggshtray. It’s an eggcup for holding boiled eggs, which seconds as an ashtray.
I produced about a half dozen Eggshtrays in varied colors ranging from white, yellow, and orange to blue, green, and black.
I ultimately learned the item would best serve as an eggcup from concern that its use as an ashtray would damage the surface of plaster. The final product in dual-use form would be best produced in ceramics.
